Mom to the Rescue
Is there a parent alive who doesn’t know about Silly Bandz? It seems like my daughter and all of her little friends are obsessed with collecting and wearing these decorative rubber bands. Yesterday my daughter came home from school upset because her favorite Silly Bandz had broken.
Thankfully, I was able to rescue her Silly Bandz with the help of the microwave. I simply put the broken Silly Bandz on a microwave save tray and used my fingers to push the broken edges together. Then I put it in the microwave and let it bake on high for two minutes. I removed the tray, let the band cool for five minutes, and placed the tray back in the microwave to cook for another two minutes. Then I removed the Silly Bandz and poured cold water over the re-melted edges so they would bond together.
Safari Theme Birthday Party
My six-year-old aspires to be a veterinarian when she grows up. She’s fascinated by all sorts of critters. Her room is full of animal books and pictures. She even has glass jars full of plant samples which she “studies,” making notes in her observation journal.
For her birthday party a safari theme seemed appropriate. We turned the backyard into a jungle by hiding stuffed animals in the yard. Each of the kids was given disposable cameras to photograph the “wild beasts.” For being such great explorers, each child was given a pack of animal rubber bands. The bands came in the shapes of elephants, hippopotamuses, and giraffes.
The Ideal Stocking Stuffer
If you’re anything like me then you know how frustrating it can be to forget to buy stocking stuffers. You’ve just returned home after an arduous day on the field of battle, sitting in traffic, navigating crowds and vanquishing that greedy grandmother who tried to buy two Leapsters rather than the store-mandated one. You’re exhausted, hungry and you just want to relax after your glorious victory over the trials of holiday shopping.
Now what did I do with those stocking stuffer? Oops. It’s time to get back in the car, go back to the store and start shopping. Again. This has happened to me on more occasions than I’d like to admit but somehow I never fail to forget something. This year, though, I’ll be getting my stocking stuffers online. They’re small and affordable so the shipping will be low and the delivery time will be fast. This year it looks like the favorite is going to be some of those animal rubber band bracelets that are the bane of educators everywhere. And the best part is I don’t have to go back out there.
